David Franek’s sports journey

began after a motorcycle crash.

He always loved speed.

On that unfortunate day,

he pushed to the limit

because it made him feel immortal.

Hee lost control,

and the next morning he learned he would never walk again.

After hearing this,

David didn’t quit speed – he redirected it.

Trained every day

while raising two children.

Joined the French National Cycling Team.

Won at the World Championships

and the Paralympic Games in London and Rio.

“I regret nothing.

I love my life.

It was worth the risk!”

Before the Olympics,

people talk about it.

The rest of the time – nobody.

Only our motivation –

We are alone against all.”

He played wheelchair basketball for 17 years.

“It’s pretty good

for the handbike season,”

he joked.

His team,

Corbeil-Essonnes,

often led the Nationale 1B playoffs.

Some people die while walking.

He lived while sitting.

You may have no choice to fall,

but you always have the choice –

to stand back up.
